Welcome to My Blog on Sikh Interfaith Marriages.
Interfaith marriages in the UK, seem to have been banned in Gurdwaras or Sikh temples, firstly let’s be clear their main objection comes from Sikhs who say that the Sikh code of conduct Sikh Rehat Maryada, which was not written by the Guru ji’s but written in around 1945 in Amritsar by SGPC: Shiromani_Gurdwara_Parbandhak_Commitee. Furthermore some sikhs in the UK have formed the Sikh Council UK to give orders to Sikh temples on the way they run the temple. The Sikh Council UK have also written a formal document that non-sikhs cannot get married to a Sikh unless they sign a document saying they will fully adopt Sikhism, and use Kaur/Singh in their name and educate their children to follow the Sikh philosophies. Let’s go back to the Sikh code of conduct this states that a Sikh girl may not be given to a non-Sikh, and a non-sikh cannot be married to a Sikh in the Sikh Temple in the Anand Karaj Marriage Ceremony. This is far from the humble teachings of Guru Nanak Ji. So Sikhs are proud of equality and diversity beliefs…?
Interfaith marriage banned by the SGPC. Reference to ‘Girls’ not marrying non-Sikhs, not allowing men and women to eat Lungar or sit in prayer hall together- hardly, no wheelchairs in the prayer hall, etc..diversity and equality!!
During the Anand Karaj very little about the values of marriage is talked about by the Sikh priest, but the priest asks for donations to the building fund at Great length. These councils and committees are not Guru’s. The Shri Guru Granth Sahib and teachings of the Guru Ji’s are the true word, not committees who may want money and power. Guru ji did not says non Sikhs and Sikhs are forbidden in marriage, nor that’s eating on tables in the temple Langar hall is not allowed, these are just man made rules. After the Guru’s : the Guru Granth Sahib our holy book is the last word.
More coming soon. WGJK WGJKF
